Pte. Theilinger was a Sudetan Czech from Mikolov.  He was baptised a Catholic and later in life could speak numerous languages. He served in the  International Brigade in Spain; the Pioneer Corps; joined10 Commando 3 troop aka 'X' troop; new identity John Taylor , new Regiment -The Buffs, new s/n 6305478.
 
Serious injuries after an accident with a phosphorous grenade at Littlehampton resulted in his discharge from active service.
