EMSLIE, Hamish Brian

Lieutenant Hamish Emslie was awarded the Military Cross for distinguished service in operations in Malaya with 42 Commando RM [1+2].
 
Recommendation for MC:  
Perak, Malaya.  July 1950 to Nov. 1950.
This Officer has been most zealous in operations for a continuous period since July 1950. He is bold and courageous and sets a fine example to the ranks under his command.

HALFORD, Jack Lovell

Colour Sergeant Jack Halford BEM was killed during operations in the Arabian Desert whilst seconded to the Northern Frontier Regiment on special duty with the forces of Muscat and Oman.

On the 2nd January 1945 it was announced in Gazettes that the then Corporal Jack Lovell Halford had been awarded the BEM (Military Division).

MARSHALL, William Nigel

Captain William Marshall RM was attached to the Sultan of Oman's Forces at the time of his death. 
 
"Captain W. N. Marshall, Royal Marines, and Captain M. G. A. Shipley, Royal Anglians, volunteers serving on loan with the Sultan of Oman's Armed Forces, were killed in the Dhofar province of Oman on 8th March. The helicopter in which they were travelling was shot down by rebel small-arms fire. The third person killed in the incident was not a member of Her Majesty's Forces although he had previously served in the Royal Air Force."

RAE, Stuart James

Lieutenant (Local Captain) Stuart Rae was killed during operations in the Arabian Desert whilst seconded to the Northern Frontier Regiment on special duty with the forces of Muscat and Oman.
 

REES, Cecil Thomas

Sergeant Cecil Thomas Rees, 45 Commando RM, was seconded to the Northern Frontier Regiment for operations in Oman.
He was awarded the Military Medal for courage, initiative and devotion to duty in the face of well armed Omani rebels. He successfully led a fighting patrol against an enemy strong point, inflicting casualties upon the rebels.

ROWE, Vivian Noel

Major Vivian Rowe received a Mention in Despatches in recognition of service within the operations in Northern Iraq and Southern Turkey [1].
  • Previously served in the Sultan’s Armed Forces 1972-1974, 2nd in command of 'C' Company of the Northern Frontier Regiment. In 1981 he assumed command of the Kateeba Jannoobya in Dhofar until he left the Sultan’s Armed Forces in 1984 [2].
