Captain John Thompson, No.6 Commando, was awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished servce during operations in Normandy on 7 June 1944. He was in command of a force of three Troops that launched an attack against an enemy strongpoint at Amfreville. He also served in No.4 Commando.
  • 1 August 1950 relinquishes commission on appointment to commission in the R.M.F.V.R.
  • 1956 appointed Headmaster of Keswick School.
