Acting Sergeant Basil Aylett was awarded the MM [1] for gallant and distinguished services in operations with 40RM Commando leading to the capture of Termoli. He was wounded and upon recovery from his wounds he was posted to 45RM Commando and promoted TSM of  'B' Troop [2].

He also received a MiD for good services with the 21st Army Group.
