Lieut. McConnell died whilst serving at ATURM. There is a plaque located at the Landing Craft Branch Museum, RM, Poole, Hamworthy, Dorset . Inscription: This Memorial was presented by the family of Lieutenant R. J. McConnell, RM, who died whilst serving at ATURM (Amphibious Training Unit Royal Marines) . It is in memory of all ranks of the Landing Craft Branch of the Royal Marines who have died on duty since the end of the Second World War.
