Lieutenant Mallinson Charles Denison, 3 Troop, was one of the Commando contingent for Operation Chariot, the raid at St Nazaire. He embarked on HMS Campbeltown in charge of a small protection party to cover the personnel carrying out demolitions on the dry dock. After heavy street fighting and when all ammunition was spent he was captured and became a prisoner of war. Imprisoned at Oflag 9A/H at Spangenberg , Germany [1][1a].
- 5 July 1945 Mentioned in Despatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished service against the enemy during the raid at St. Nazaire on the night of 27/28th March, 1942 [2].
- 1947 awarded the Croix de Guerre by the French Government [3].
- 19 October 1946 promoted Captain Royal Fusiliers with seniority dated 1 July 1946 [4].
- 15 February 1947 transfers to Gloucestershire Regiment [5].
- Served during the Korean War [6].
- 21 December 1952 promoted Major [7].
