Sub Lieutenant Alan Hodgson was killed in Italy [1]. He received a posthumous MiD for "distinguished service in operations carried out in the face of determined opposition from the enemy which led to the capture of the island of Elba."[2]

Sub.Lieut. Hodgson was a Beachmaster during the operation [3].

The CWGC list his unit only as HMS Salsette. This was a Combined Operations shore base. His MiD was not shown on the CWGC record. They have been informed and have now amended their record accordingly.
