Warrant Officer Class 2 Andrew Forret, 'Z' Company,  died during the annual deployment to Norway.  He was sitting in the cab of a BV 202 oversnow vehicle in which he had been awaiting the return of an overdue patrol group in atrocious weather. He was poisoned by exhaust fumes on a faulty vehicle.

Marine Stephen Jacques, aged 18 and a 'veteran' of the Falklands campaign, died from exposure during a training exercise in Norway in 1983 [1] [2]

PIKE, Robert Allat

Marine Robert Pike died during winter training exercises in Norway when a 20 tonne vehicle plunged into a river at Skoelv.  [Sources: AFM ROH / Navy News issue Apr 1993, p36.]

SALZANO, Domenico Costable

Lance Corporal Domenico Salzano, a veteran of the Falklands campaign, died when his parachute failed to open during a training exercise in Norway.

STANSFIELD, Christian John

Marine Christian Stansfield, RMR Merseyside, collapsed and died of natural causes during a training mission in Norway. Christian joined the Royal Marines at the age of 17 and had served three tours of duty in Northern Ireland as well as a spell in Afghanistan.

VAN DER HORST, Richard Evert

Lieutenant Colonel Richard Evert van der Horst OBE, Officer Commanding the Special Boat Service, died in a diving accident during an amphibious exercise off Norway on March 7 2005; he died on March 14. 
  • 1984 joined the Royal Marines as a university cadet entrant and passed out in 1988 with the Sword of Honour *.
