In 2010 he joined HMS OCEAN as the first Royal Marine to be appointed as Commander Air or ‘Wings’ of an RN aircraft carrier since the 2nd WW. In the course of this appointment he was in Command of 2 Naval Air Groups: using Apache for Maritime Strike for Operations in Libya, and then using Army and Maritime Lynx in a sniper role in support of security for the Olympic Games. He was awarded the MBE in the 2012 Operational Honours List for his leadership and innovation in generating and delivering AH during Operation Unified Protector, Libya. On leaving OCEAN in 2012 he was appointed to the Ministry of Defence in the Operations Directorate, where he served until 2014 before assuming the role of Deputy Commander Commando Helicopter Force. Activated for operations in North Africa, he was assigned to PJHQ and promoted Colonel in 2015 prior to being selected for Command of the Commando Helicopter Force.
