Brigadier Jeremy Thomas, HQ 3 Commando Brigade RM, was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Afghanistan during the period 1st October 2006 to 31st March 2007 [1].
 
Awarded for his leadership of a 4000 joint Task Force, overseeing initial progress and a notable reversal in Taliban fortunes. The performance of the Task Force during his tour of duty was formidable, and delivered significant successes across each of the facets of the complex campaign, which was conducted in extremely arduous and exacting conditions. This was, for the large part a reflection of the wisdom, temperament, courage and resilience of its leader [1a]
