Killed in action or died of wounds
Marine Gordon Wallace died during operations at Anzio, Italy .
Extract from the Fulham Chronicle - Friday 21 April 1944
"Many Fulham friends will learn with regret that Gordon Peter Wallace has died from wounds received in action with the Royal Marine Commandos . He was the younger son of Mr . W. O. Wallace, 34 Ellaline Road, Fulham Palace Road, and he would have been 21 next month." 
"Popularly known as " Peter," Commando Wallace was born in Fulham. He went to Finlay Street School and Westminster City School. He was employed in the offices of the Crown Agents for the Colonies when he volunteered for the Marines in October, 1941. He had taken part in Commando raids on Dieppe and in operations in Sicily and Italy. In October he was wounded and was In hospital in North Africa. Only a few weeks ago Mr. Wallace had a letter from his son in which be said he was fit again and looking forward to rejoining his pals. " 
"Mr. W. 0. Wallace has lived In Fulham 35 years. His wife died nearly three years ago. Two other sons are in the Forces. Corporal Sidney Wallace is in the R A.F. and Corporal Reginald Wallace, Royal Fusiliers, is in India. Both went to Fulham Central School."
