Trooper William Mitchell was killed in action during operations at Agnone, Sicily, and the Bridge at Malati (3 Commando Bridge). A serving Police Officer from Renfrewshire he had volunteered for the Commandos as part of the Police Intakes.

Saturday 28 August 1943
"Commando William Mitchell, formerly a member of the Renfrewshire Constabulary at Johnstone, has been killed in the Middle East. He had six years' police service and joined the Army, in October of last year. His wife and child reside at 15 Thompson Avenue. Johnstone."
