Extract from the Daily Record - Saturday 28 August 1943
"Commando Killed :-  Commando William Mitchell, formerly a member of the Renfrewshire Constabulary at Johnstone, has been killed in the Middle East. He had six years' police service and joined the Army, in October of last year. His wife and child reside at 15 Thompson Avenue. Johnstone." [3]
