William Johnson was attested into the Royal Artillery in 1938. He later joined No.5 Commando, was promoted Bombardier, and embarked on HMS Campbeltown for the raid at St. Nazaire on 28 March 1942. Reported missing after the raid later found to be a prisoner of war.
After release in 1945 he was transferred to the Royal Engineers 8 August 1945.
