Memorial to Captain Alan Pyman MC

"Captain Alan Pyman Memorial
The late Capt. Pyman's brother, Michael Pyman, with a little co-operation from the rest of the family, have made " Zonk's Mountain " (Zonk was Alan's loony family nickname), as a memorial to Alan Pyman.
The Mountain is a huge structure 25 feet high made in a shipyard and transported by the army to Kielder Water, a very beautiful lake and forest reserve in Northumberland.

There it will be used for the benefit of disabled children and their families who come to a holiday home on the shores of the lake, where they stay in attractive chalet like cottages and have a central communal building with a dining room and swimming pool.
The Mountain, which is being sand-blasted to blend with the countryside, will encourage them to try climbing, while tunnels underneath will provide pot holes and perhaps a rabbit warren for the youngest children. There is to be an opening house party on Saturday, October 21st 1989. Some members of the family will be there and they would love to see any of Zonk's old comrades from No.6 Commando and their wives and children who might be able to make their way to Northumberland."

Great to see that over 30 years later it is still in use with additional activities.
