Captain John Giles, 3 troop, died during operations at Vaagso. Served in No.3 Commando since their first raid on Guernsey. Son of Frederick William and Margaret Mary Maud Palin Giles. John Giles was commissioned into the Gloucestershire Regiment and was the Army Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Southern Command. He played rugby for Clifton Rugby Football Club. His brother Second Lieutenant Bruce Giles also served in No.3 Commando and was at Vaagso.
