Corporal Albert Halls, No. 1 Section of 6 Troop, was awarded the Military Medal in recognition of gallant and distinguished service during Operation Jubilee at Dieppe, France, during which he was taken prisoner of war.  Post war member of the Commando Association residing Deal, Kent.
Recommendation
"At Berneval on 19 August 1942 Cpl. A.R. Halls, while taking part in the Dieppe landng, commanded the point section of the advance with a spirit of complete fearlessness. He set a magnificent example of leadership and seemed to be everywhere giving encoragement and confidence.
With supreme disregard for his personal safety he dashed forward alone and frontally assaulted a Machine Gun post killing its crew.
Later when his Troop Commander was wounded he crawled forward under withering fire and attempted to drag him back, and this endeavour he did not abandon until directly ordered by a senior officer.
The example of skill and courage exhibited by the NCO contributed greatly to the maintenance of morale and fighting efficiency of the other troops during the battle.
In addition this feat it is of interest to note that in 1940 this NCO, then a Private soldier, was taken prisoner at Boulogne but escaped and after a long journey was picked up by our Coastal Forces whilst crossing the channel in an open boat."
