Private Donald Bentley died during operations in North Africa. Son of Greenwood and Mary Elizabeth Bentley, of Carlton-Le-Moorland, Lincolnshire.
In 1939 Donald was a Police Constable residing at 74 Farthing Avenue, Scunthorpe. Prior to volunteering for the Commandos in 1942 he was stationed at Crowland Police Station. Donald joined a Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), and after completing his training was attached to No.1 Commando. He is amongst those named on the WW2 Memorial Plaque located at Lincolnshire Police HQ, Deepdale Lane, Nettleham, West Lindsey, Lincolnshire.
