Archibald Grant 62 and 3 Commando
Archibald Campbell Grant  joined the Police in 1938 and was a Police Constable in Troon, Ayrshire in 1942 before volunteering for the Commandos. He was in the 3rd Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre) at Achnacarry. Post war he completed 30 years service as a village Constable in different locations around the county. He retired in 1968 and died in 1990.

October 1942, 3rd Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. 
19.01.1943 attached to No.3 Commando.
05.03.1943, 62 Commando, disembarked North Africa. Parachute trained in Morocco*.
05.07.1943 admitted to 67 General Hospital with Malaria.
26.07.1943 discharged to 2 RTD.
24.09.1943 posted No.3 Commando. Serving in 6 Troop before Termoli (Operation Devon).
01.12.1943 admitted 5 General Hospital.
09.02.1944 transferred to 95 General Hospital.
03.03.1944 evacuated to the UK and later posted 'Y' list placed in medical category B1.
25.07.1944 posted from 'Y' list to to Infantry Training Depot, Edinburgh.
23.08.1944 posted to 11th Bn., A&SH.
15.10.1944 posted 41 Reinforcement Holding Unit and embarked for North West Europe. Served in British Army HQ in Paris doing clerical duties and then moved with Army HQ through Europe until the end of the war.

*Note: Whilst it is not mentioned on the service record it should be noted that after this date 62 Commando was disbanded, with many of the men forming the nucleus of the new 2nd SAS.
