Pte. Stickley was mortally wounded in a gun accident on Brighton Beach during the evening of 19th November 1945, and later died from his wounds on 30th November 1945. He served with No.6 Commando from 28th September 1945.
 
​His Father also died in the war. 38551 Corporal Albert William Stickley, 102 Field Coy., Royal Engineers, died in France on the 27th May, 1940 aged 42 and is remembered with honour at the Dunkirk Memorial.
