Sgt. Hewett was a police intake into the Commando and served in 'S' troop.

After the war he returned to the Oxfordshire County Constabulary. He was on traffic duties for about four years after which he went on an advanced driving course and became the county police driving instructor. He was a keen photographer and because of these skills he was asked to join the CID as a scenes of crime officer. He eventually retired around 1969. He told us of some of his wartime experiences and we know that he was devastated when Jimmy Whitaker was killed in action. Harry was by his side at the time. (Source: His son Jeff Hewitt.)
