"A Royal Marine Corporal was shot dead and four other British soldiers were wounded by terrorists in Sarawak, an Army spokesman said in Singapore yesterday. The British were checking identity cards in a border farmhouse, when the terrorists pounced. Fighting back, the wounded inflicted casualties. All the British belonged to No. 42 Commando. One of the wounded is Marine P. R. Howes, of Exmouth".
