Marine Balderstone from Callander, Perthshire, was wounded on 20 February 1964 when ambushed by terrorists in Sarawak whilst checking identity cards in a border farmhouse with others from 42 Commando RM. During the ambush Corporal Reginald Chappell from West Bromwich was killed. Marines Paul Reginald Howes from Exmouth, John Grant Finlay from Montrose, and one other as yet unknown, were also wounded. Fighting back the wounded inflicted casualties.
