Lieutenant General Rob Magowan joined the Royal Marines in 1989. After successfully completing his training he assumed several Troop Command roles, including a tour of Northern Ireland [1].
- 2002 posted 42 Commando as Second in Command, deploying to both Kuwait and Iraq for Operation TELIC 1 [1].
- 31.12.2004 (Lieut. Colonel) (42 Commando RM) appointed M.B.E. (Military Division) [1][2].
- 2006 assumed command of the UK Landing Force Command Support Group, later redesignated 30 Commando Information Exploitation Group [1].
- 2013 (Acting Brigadier) appointed C.B.E. (Military Division) for gallant and distinguished service in Afghanistan October 2012 to March 2013 [3].
- 09.06.2018 (Major General) (Commandant General Royal Marines) appointed C.B. (Military Divsion). Also awarded the US Legion of Merit for his time as CGRM [1][4].
- 22.01.2020 (Major General) promoted Lieutenant General and Deputy Commander Strategic Command (UKStratCom) [5].
