Corporal George McKenna died in Corfu. Son of George and Mary Ellen McKenna, of Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. [1][1a].
Mentioned in Despatches for devotion to duty during operations in the Mediterranean theatre covering a period from 1st April to 10th September, 1944 [2]. Wounded  Brac 3rd June 1944 [3]

Historical note
The circumstances of his death are not known to this archive. 40RM Cdo. had taken part in Operation Mercerised in Albania 27 Sept. to 9 Oct. when Sarande was finally attacked and taken. 2 of their Officers and 4 OR's were killed, and 4 Officers and 18 OR's were wounded. At the time of his death they were engaged in policing operations in Corfu. (40RM Commando War Diary).
