Corporal William Lester was awarded the Military Medal for gallant and distinguished services in operations. He was in 5 troop, one of two sections of the Commando that assaulted Limbang Police Station, Sarwak, on the 12th December 1962 to release hostages being held there. Five Marines from his Commando died during this operation.
