Fusilier William John was reported missing 26 February 1943 during operations in North Africa (Battle of Steamroller Farm), later found to be a prisoner of war in Italy and Germany. He volunteered for the Commandos from the Police. In 1939 he was a Metropolitan Police Officer, single, residing at the Police Section House, Violet Road, Bromley by Bow. Post war member of the Commando Association last known residing Borehamwood Hertfordshire.
