Thomas Alfred Taylor joined the Metropolitan Police on 16 January 1939. Police Constable Taylor volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 and was posted to the 1st Police Intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre) Achnacarry. After completing the commando training he was posted to No.3 Commando 2 Troop (Heavy Weapons).
Lance Corporal Taylor was Mentioned in Despatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Italy (Sicily). He served with No.3 Commando for the remainder of the war being discharged on 9 September 1945. He re-joined the Metropolitan Police retiring on 25 July 1965 as a Detective Sergeant on "F" Division.
