WILLEY, Simon

Rank:
Corporal
Unit / Base:
'42 Commando RM'
Regiment/Corps:
Royal Marines
Service:
Royal Navy
Number:
P056153P
Honours & Awards:
Corporal Simon Willey was awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Afghanistan [1].

On 6 March 2007 Willey was involved in an operation to clear a Taliban stronghold.
Willey, showing complete disregard for his own safety over a prolonged period under effective enemy fire, enabled the break-in and alone was pivotal to success. The company went on to kill over 20 Taliban. Though in danger of becoming isolated and under accurate small arms fire, Willey  demonstrated outstanding gallantry and determination in ensuring that this task was completed to enable mission success, saving further casualties in the process [2].
