Lieutenant Colonel Michael Reece was appointed O.B.E. (Military Division) in recognition of distinguished service in Northern Ireland during the period 1st August to 31st October 1980 [1].
- 14 February 1969 Captain M.J. Reece RM appointed Commanding Officer 848 Squadron at RNAS Sembawang, Singapore. The first RM officer to command a naval helicopter squadron, and the first in FAA command since 1946 [2].
- Michael Reece qualified as a pilot in 1963 and flew Whirlwinds and Wessex with 845 and 848 Squadrons, and instructed on 707 Squadron before returning to Corps duty in October 1970 [2].
- 1980 Commanding Officer 41 Commando RM [2].
- 12 January 1982 promoted Colonel [3].
- 1984 Commanding Officer CTCRM [2].
- To Retired List 2 January 1987 [4].
- He was the author of Flying Royal Marines published by the RM Historical Society.
