Lance Corporal Lee Stephenson died of a heart attack.
Extract from the Newcastle Evening Chronicle
Lee Stephenson was a superfit Royal Marine who loved all sports and exercise. At 23 he was at the peak of his physical condition. Today the young serviceman, from Edmondsley, near Chester-le-Street, is being buried by his grief-stricken family. The lance-corporal who survived the Gulf War and Ulster keeled over with a heart attack while making tea for his mates. Despite attempts to revive him, he died almost immediately.
