Marine Wardil, 'B' Troop, was wounded and a prisoner of war 11 June 1944 at Rots, Normandy. Escaped from a hospital at Alencon and arrived back in the UK 16 August 1944. Awarded the British Empire Medal for outstanding courage and devotion to duty. Wounded 29 April 1945 at the River Elbe.
