Marine Pointer, 'Y' Troop' was wounded (shot) 13 April 1945 during an advance through woods to take Hademstorf near the River Aller. He had previously served in his local Home Guard at Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, guarding the River Ribble along with Peter Donnelly before they both joined the Royal Marines.
