Sgt. Frederick Darts DCM No 3 Commando

Sergeant Frederick Darts was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the field during operations in Sicily [1]
Taken prisoner during the Sicily operations he was later transported to Stalag XVIIIA at Wolfsberg (Kärnten) [2]. Post war member of the Commando Association [3].

Brigadier Peter Young mentions him in his book Storm from the Sea in relation to the Vaagso raid and also at Agnone, Sicily,  when Sgt. Darts was in 6 troop, "Sergeant Darts, a young giant well known to me since Dunkirk days when he was in the Pioneer platoon of the battalion I had served in."  He later mentions Sgt Darts carrying a wounded officer on his shoulders for over 400 yards.
