FISHER, Daniel

Rank:
Marine
Unit / Base:
'42 Commando RM'
Regiment/Corps:
Royal Marines
Service:
Royal Navy
Number:
P063328S
Honours & Awards:
Marine Daniel Fisher was awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Afghanistan.
On 6 March 2007 Fisher’s section was tasked with providing intimate fire support to clear a Taliban stronghold. His section commander wounded, Fisher stepped up to the role and retrieved the command equipment. The assault continued.
He led the section through a myriad of compounds for the next seven hours. This required him to exercise careful command and control, which would have tested the most experienced of section commanders.
Having suffered four casualties across the company his leadership inspired the section to continue what had already proved to be a dangerous task.
Despite no formal command training and with less than two years experience as a Royal Marine, Fisher’s performance under these extreme operational circumstances was above and beyond that expected of a Marine.
