Capt. Robert Loudoun 43RM Commando
Educated at University College School in Hampstead. Joined the Royal Marines in 1940 aged 18. Promoted Lance Corporal before being commissioned. Served with 3 Battalion RM which was disbanded 1 August 1943 on formation of 43RM Commando. Officer Commanding 'C' Troop. Active service included Anzio, operations across the Garigliano River, raids on the occupied Dalmatian Islands, including Mijet and Brac, from the Island of Vis from February 1944, and in 1945 Lake Comacchio, Italy. Post war posted to 45RM Commando (redesignated 45 Commando RM) on disbandment of 43RM Commando. Served in Hong Kong, Malta, North  Africa and Palestine. Returned to the UK 1948. Instructor at RN College, Greenwich, then A/SO1 American and West Indies station. Staff Captain in HQ Plymouth Group. Adjutant 40 Commando RM in Malta and Cyprus 1957/58. Second in Command 42 Commando RM 1963 with active service in Indonesia and Borneo. 1965 appointed OBE (Military Divison). Commanded 40 Commando RM in the Far East (Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaya). Later appointed Major General RM Training Group. 1973 appointed C.B. (Military Division). Retired 1975.
