22.02.1945 W/S Lieut. relinquishes commission (disability). Granted hon. rank Lieut [5].
Notes on rank
  • His death in hospital on 18 August 1951 was notified to members in Commando Association newsletter 14 published in March 1952 with his commando rank shown as Private. If correct he may have left the commandos before being commissioned in 1942.
  • Nos.9 and 11 Cdos were merged for a short period in Oct.1940 into the 2nd Special Service Bn. In Jan.1941 No.11 Cdo embarked for the Middle East as part of Layforce subsequently being disbanded early at the end of 1941.
  • His death was also announced in local newspapers. Full details not seen [6].
  • On the headstone at his grave at Sound Kirkyard, Wyesdale, Shetland Islands are the words 'Captain Commandos'. This may have been a temporary or acting rank held [7].
