In 1939 Hugh Riley was a Police Constable residing in Edge Lane, Manchester. Volunteered for the Commandos in 1942, his service number indicating he joined the 2nd Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. Joined No.1 Special Boat Section. Active service included Italy and Burma. Released from service 10 November 1945. In 1949 he was residing in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester.
