In 1939 Hugh Riley was a Police Constable residing in Edge Lane, Manchester. Volunteered for the Commandos in 1942. Joined No.1 Special Boat Section. Active service included Italy and Burma. Released from service 10 November 1945. In 1949 he was residing in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester.

Notes
Courtney in source [3] names a Cpl. Riley as taking part in an SBS operation on Timbaki Airfield, Crete 6/7 June 1942 which was one month prior to the 2nd Police Intake at Achnacarry. Awaits verification if ident.
