Raymond Wakefield, an Oxfordshire Police Constable, collar number 81, volunteered for the Commandos in 1942. He had resided in Norfolk Street Police Billet, Tynemouth, since at least 1939. Constable Wakefield volunteered for the commandos in 1942 and joined the 2nd Police Intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. Commando service included No.12 Commando and later in the Far East No.1 Commando. Post war he re-joined the police and in 1956 was promoted Sergeant at Whitley Bay Northumberland. Member of the Commando Association last known residing Bishopthorpe, York.
