Private William Green was reported missing presumed died died during the period No 7 Commando, as part of Layforce, were engaged in a rearguard action whilst allied troops were evacuated from Crete. He has no known grave. Son of Harry and Anne Elizabeth Green, of March, Cambridgeshire.

The CWGC show his unit as 3 Special Service Bn. No 7 Commando and No 4 Commando formed this Bn. This unit title was short lived before the units were redesignated back as Commando units. It was during this period No 7 Commando were sent to the Middle East as part of Layforce.
