William Dickson Duncan, a Hand Compositor from Glasgow, enlisted into the Armed Forces 18 April 1940 later volunteering for the commandos. Corporal Duncan, No.7 Commando attached to Layforce, was reported missing later confirmed prisoner of war 20 April 1941 during an operation at Bardia, Cyrenaica, Libya. Initially detained at camps in Benghazi and Tripoli before relocation to Italy and Germany.
