Private Walter Cottam, 1st Bn., Liverpool Scottish, volunteered for the Commandos and was attached to No.7 Commando on 10 October 1940 [1][2].
31 January 1941 departed for the Middle East as 'A' Battalion of Layforce [2].
28 May 1941 wounded during operations on Crete but managed to escape off the island before being hospitalised ending up in Durban South Africa [1][3].
Post war emigrated to Canada [3].
