William Simon Thompson, a Butcher from Northumberland, enlisted into the Royal Marines in October 1941. Marine Thompson, 45RM Commando, was wounded in June 1944 and taken prisoner of war in Normandy, France. After initial treatment at a German Naval Hospital from 26 June 1944 until 21 July 1944 he was transported to Marlag und Milad Nord Camp arriving there on 2 August 1944.
