William Henry Barnett enlisted into the Armed Forces on 23 November 1936. Fusilier Barnett, 50 Middle East Commando ('D' Battalion, Layforce), was reported missing 2 June 1941 during operations in Crete, subsequently confirmed prisoner of war. He escaped twice during captivity but was recaptured each time. In 1945 after repatriation he was residing in Battersea, London.
