Colour Sergeant Thomas Morgan, 41RM Commando, was awarded the Military Medal for leadership, gallantry and devotion to duty at Salerno, Italy [1][1a]
Recommendation
At Vietri Sul Mare on 13 September 1943, the troop of which this N.C.O. was Sergeant Major carried out a counter attack in which the two remaining officers were killed. Colour Sergeant Morgan immediately took command of the troop. The enemy continued to attack fiercely and during the close fighting which ensued Colour Sergeant Morgan noticed that two Bren guns had stopped firing owing to stoppages. He immediately went forward and remedied the guns under heavy fire. By his disregard for his own safety and the skill with which he remedied the guns he did much to assist the successful repulse of the enemy. At all times this N.C.O. showed a high standard of devotion to duty and was an inspiration to his men" [1a].
