5 July 1930 attested at Hull into the Coldstream Guards aged 15. Trade on enlistment: Porter. 
20 June 1932 discharged from service.
5 January 1940 re-enlisted Coldstream Guards.
Attached to No 8 Commando...dates unknown.
May 1945 awarded the Silver Star conferred by the President of the United States of America for distinguished service in the cause of the Allies serving with 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards, 24 Guards Brigade, 6 South African Armoured Division during the attack on Bucciagni Ridge, Vergato, Italy, on 1st October 1944.
