Gunner Sydney Egleton was wounded 14 July 1943 during operations at Agnone, Sicily, and the bridge at Malati (3 Commando Bridge).

In 1939 Sydney Oswald Egleton, aged 17, was residing with his parents and family in Whitelaw Avenue, Southampton and employed as a Junior Clerk. He joined the Hampshire Constabulary as PC 205 on 7 March 1941. Sydney volunteered for the commandos in 1942 joining the 3rd Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry, on 15 October 1942. Re-joined Hampshire Constabulary on 19 December 1945. Promoted Sergeant 17 April 1956. Posted to Winchester 3 January 1961 on promotion to Inspector. Retired 3 June 1966. Member of the Commando Association.
