Ronald Payne, a Student from Essex, enlisted into the Armed Forces 2 September 1939 later volunteering for the commandos. Gunner Payne, No.7 Commando attached to Layforce, was reported missing later confirmed prisoner of war 21 April 1941 during an operation at Bardia, Cyrenaica, Libya.
