Recommendation
"On 3 Nov. 44, No. 10 (I.A.) Commando was given the task of clearing the dune and wooded area immediately to the East of the town of Domburg on Walcheren Island.
At 1315hrs the Norwegian troop, under the command of Capt. Hauge, attacked strong enemy positions around the water tower in the dune area. Covering fire was given by two Sherman tanks. Capt. Hauge personally led this attack which was successful.
Although he himself was wounded by mortar fire, he nevertheless regrouped his Troop and exploited this successful action by pressing forward for a further half mile. Two additional strongpoints were captured and a total of some 175 prisoners were taken.
It was not until Capt. Hauge had personally supervised the consolidation of his Troop in defensive positions, towards dusk that evening, that he reported he had been wounded. He was examined by the Medical Officer and later evacuated to the mainland.
In this action Capt. Hauge proved himself to be an outstanding Troop Leader. He set a fine example to his men by his courage and devotion to duty. Although wounded, he carried on and led his Troop with great dash and skill. Throughout he showed great tenacity of purpose and a complete disregard for his own personal safety."
[Recommended by Lieut. Colonel Peter Laycock, Commanding No.10 (I.A.) Commando.]
