Robert William Thrift, son of Thomas and Henrietta Thrift of Leyton, was a Metropolitan Police Officer in 1939, warrant number 127121, residing at Ambrosden Police Section House, in Westminster. He volunteered for the Commandos in 1942 and joined the 1st Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre) at Achnacarry. His service with No.1 Commando included North Africa and Burma. 16 February 1946 Class 'B' Release. Post war resided Brixton, London.
